The "super park" multi-functional project with an area of up to 128 hectares is planned to be completed. The project is located on the peninsula of Thu Thiem, Thu Duc city, Ho Chi Minh City. Situated in the future financial and economic center of Ho Chi Minh City, the Thu Thiem peninsula welcomes the massive ecological forest park project. With this extensive area, the park will become the city's third largest park, after Saigon Safari Park (485 hectares) and District 12 Park (150 hectares). The total area is 7.5 times larger than Thao Cam Vien Park in District 1.

This is one of the park projects proposed and approved in the urban infrastructure plan of Ho Chi Minh City for the 2024-2030 development phase, under Decision No. 117 regarding the development plan for green parks within the city. The park project requires a total investment of up to 6,400 billion Vietnamese Dong. According to the zoning plan, the ecological forest park is located in functional zone 8 of the Thu Thiem urban area. This area features natural wetland ecosystems that receive water from upstream sources and tidal waters from rivers and channels. Due to its unique characteristics, only three small plots of land will be used for constructing tourist facilities, recreational areas, and botanical research, aiming to create educational and entertainment destinations for the community and tourists. The constructions on these three plots are designed with harmonious scale and architecture, low building density to preserve the natural landscape of the area. The remaining functional zones in the plan will be dedicated to urban development, creating a harmonious urban and ecological space that fully meets the needs of residents in the area.

The main characteristic of this area is its wetland forest environment and marshes, forming a diverse ecosystem with the presence of shrubs, water coconut palms, and reed beds. It is a natural wetland area that plays a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance and protecting biodiversity in the region. The purpose of constructing this super park is to create a large public green space, serving not only as an entertainment venue but also as a destination for relaxation, promoting health, and improving the quality of the living environment.
Additionally, the park plays a significant role in climate regulation and mitigating the urban heat island effect. The project also plans to integrate amenities and services for the community, including playgrounds, sports and fitness areas, as well as spaces for cultural and artistic activities. Furthermore, the park will include areas for outdoor activities such as camping and hiking, alongside sports playgrounds to meet the recreational and lifestyle needs of residents. Importantly, a network of roads and bicycle paths will be built around the area to facilitate movement and exploration of different parts of the park, while encouraging outdoor activities and sports.

The riverfront park with 75% of its total land area covered by greenery is designed to primarily preserve and develop indigenous plant species within its wetland ecological zone. This area serves the vital function of environmental conservation and maintaining natural ecosystems, complemented by recreational and rest areas for residents. The synergy of wind, air, and water creates a tranquil atmosphere beneficial not only for physical health but also for uplifting spirits and revitalizing energy levels for laborers. This space is crucial for people to enjoy and relax, contributing positively to reducing the urban heat island effect and improving the quality of life in a densely populated city like Ho Chi Minh City.
In the planning, the greenery and forest areas will be planted with native species and plants capable of withstanding urban environments. Additionally, there will be a plan to establish artificial forests to create habitats and provide food sources for wildlife. This initiative aims to protect and enhance biodiversity in the area, while also maintaining ecological balance and natural ecosystems in the developing urban environment.
So far, the wetland forest area in central Ho Chi Minh City has witnessed significant growth of many plant species and the return of various wild animals. For instance, the Nypa fruticans, commonly known as the nipa palm, thrives in freshwater and brackish environments, often forming dense mangrove forests. The nipa palm provides habitats and food sources for numerous animal species, including birds like herons, eagles, and cranes, which are frequently observed in the area. Other animals such as fish and shrimp also inhabit the freshwater ecosystems within the forested area.
The presence of these species not only demonstrates the sustainability of the ecosystem but also provides residents with a close connection to nature where they can relax and engage in outdoor activities. This also reflects the primary purpose of the park, which is to protect and restore natural habitats within a developing urban environment. However, due to the large area and multiple access points, authorities face challenges in managing and fully preventing activities like illegal fishing and hunting by people coming from outside the area.
In particular, this area is integrated with waterway transport routes that are dredged from existing canal streams. During high tides, water from the Saigon River flows into these canal systems, which are then filtered and reintroduced into the ecological water transport system of the park. This helps maintain the water environment within the area while creating a rich and sustainable ecosystem for the park. This approach not only supports the environmental sustainability of the park but also enhances its functionality as an ecological reserve within the urban landscape of Ho Chi Minh City.

Currently, nestled within the ecological forest park, there are operational facilities such as the People's Committee of An Loi Dong Ward, the waterway team headquarters, forestry offices, and temporary resettlement areas for residents of Thu Thiem. These facilities serve various administrative, environmental, and community purposes within the park area.
The project to build the ecological forest park not only brings environmental and economic value but also plays a crucial role in the sustainable development strategy of Ho Chi Minh City. Considered a landmark project, it significantly contributes to the construction of a green, clean, beautiful, and modern city. It provides green spaces for residents and tourists while protecting and restoring the natural environment, thereby mitigating the impacts of urbanization and climate change. Moreover, the project promotes sustainable economic development through eco-tourism and environmental education activities, delivering long-term benefits for both the community and future generations.
